When I was a teenager, and throughout my life (apart from my Taiping years), I don't usually listen to nasheed, until lately..alhamdulillah. If my anthem for yesteryear was Joey McIntyre's 'Stay the same'...now I think I am in love with this song by Sami Yusuf..which is called 'Asma Allah'. But the problem is, I am very much confused. I thought (Hafiz said) that musical instruments which has strings are haraam. And if it so, then is this nasheed or all the nasheed by Rabbani, and has musical instruments haram? Eventhough the message is clearly good, and in this case, clearly praising our beloved Allah. Does anyone know? My knowledge in Islam is clearly not deep enough to know. But all I know, rather than hearing songs like rap music cursing around or listening about girls singing about their umbrellas or saying that their whateva are hot, or looking at hot, steamy and sexy videos at mtv, i think it would be a better alternative to listen to songs like this.... wallahu'alam..
I am not saying I'm a good muslim, although I try my best to be. for the sake of Allah's blessings. Ironically, I feel closer to Allah when I'm here, in a non-muslim country, what with knowing people who are not Malay and are muslims. Alhamdulillah...Plus, the muslims here are different than Malaysian muslim where there are some who think that they are so pious and perfect and judge others for not being a good muslim simply because they don't follow what they say..(not all la, just very few, but they made all the other look bad) and the mualafs there (i have blogs of this mualaf as proof -see my profile at blogs that i follow) say that the malay muslim community doesn't embrace them with welcoming arms. Please friends, understand one thing. Islam is a universal religion, anyone can be a muslim, it doesn't have to be a Malay. Here, or even in Singapore, there are Turkish mosque, Chinese mosque, Tamil Mosque, etc..which cater for all muslim ESPECIALLY those who can speak their language. For instance, if I'm a chinese who (sorry to say) only speak little malay (what to do, i might not concentrate/flunk my BM class in school), but I am intrigued by Islam. So how do get to know Islam better? How can I become a muslim? If I go to friday prayers, and listen to a malay khutbah..i don't think i can understand, so no point of me going, right? So, thankfully I have a chinese masjid, so that I can go there and learn my religion Islam, in my mother tongue. My uncle (true story), who only speaks Tamil and English, goes to Tamil speaking masjid for his friday prayers. Ok kan? But, if I am a Malay, and I want to pray at a chinese masjid, can i go? of course i can. Like Hafiz going to the Turkish mosque here (They don't say for Turkish only). Masjid, whatever race or language that they can say, all represent the same thing, 'Rumah Allah'..tempat beribadah kepada Allah.. A place where we can worship our Allah. So really, if I were a politician, and someone wants to build masjid, regardless of what language the masjid will use, I'll approve it. I'm sorry if anyone feel offended. This is what I feel. A masjid is a masjid. A place of worship, a place to study quran or islamic studies, a place for the ummah to get-together and do activities to gain Allah's blessings but never a place for politics (i have to listen to hateful ceramahs which are anti-BN, etc when I was in Malaysia, especially during Ramadhan. I'm not exagerating when I say that they even curse and use very bad words -B**i- in their ceramah. Astaghfirullah. Macamni ke ajaran Islam? Malu kalau orang bukan Islam tengok). Hence the reason I can't be bothered to vote anymore.. it's like voting a tiger or a lion... either way you're going to suffer as both will eat you up.. Can somebody honest please step up and become a politician for a change? (isy, takutla nak ckp lebih2, kang kena bar dr masuk Malaysia pulak ;p)
This experience, being here in Perth, is truly an eye-opening one. I guess when you are lonely, when you have problems, when Allah gives you obstacles, it's His way of telling us to come closer to Me, and I will always be close to you. This is such a beautiful and magical songs, what with all the praises of Allah in it. SubhanAllah. I feel blessed. I pray that all of us will always be in His blessings to, insyaAllah. Make time for Allah, and Allah will make time for you..
Wallahu'alam. I only have little knowledge on Islam, aren't we all? So please spare me any hateful comments that you might have if you don't agree to what I have to say.......
Take care

have u checked out his video clips..? quality kn?
faizal,
bagusla daku membuatkan dirimu terfikir pada hari ini.. dan juga esok lusa dan tulat..
Dear Sheri,
You might want to listen to the ceramah given by Yusuf Estes(the renown Chairman of American Muslim Council) for a change. If i am not mistaken he did explain on the type of musical instruments that are considered as haram. You see he was a former music minister in his church before he reverted to islam and music is something close to his heart. google his name on the youtube.
Love to listen to him as his knowledge is astounding and his presentation and clarification on an issue is always well-researched and logical. His vast knowledge on comparative religion and languages that govern the previus Books (latin, greek, aramic, hebrew and arabic) helps us to understand the history of religions, ibadah and also the confusion that we have in our every day practise.
Well, i feel sorry for most of the newly reverted muslims in malaysia as they are expected to "masuk melayu" rather than "masuk islam". My family is seriously multiracial and i have seen how my aunties and uncles struggle hard to fit into 'acuan melayu" when they actually can recite the quran with better makhraj and tajwid compared to the malays who gave them a hard time.
And paling tak tahan when some people who think they are so relgious and knowledgable start talking to you with the "i am holier than thou attitude". Their sentences, intonation and facial expression are etched with ria' rather than sincerity... nauzubillah!
sheri,
i always love reading Ms Red Hat comments. very thoughtful, nicely written and easy to understand. tapi nak masuk blog dia tak bley la pulak. hope if she read this comment she would allow me to read her entries.
i agree with what she said. ada manusia yang rasa dirinya lebih berilmu, dan apabila bercakap ada nada riak dalam diri dia. mauzubillah, mintak i dijauhkan dari sifat tersebut!
yep, adakalanya, mualaf jauh lebih baik dari mereka yang lahir sebagai muslim. they dapat hidayah, dig for more knowledge and apply in everyday life.
kay sheri, take care
Dear Salina,
ever since we had that conversation about yusuf estes on the phone, i have already done my homework ;p. and yes, i do like him and he is rather refreshing. I really appreciate your comments you know, everyone seems to enjoy reading it!
Sha,
Miss Red Hat kita is too busy to blog nowadays, so if you go to her blog pun, she doesn't update anymore. Her english is superb, if she were to do IELTS she would get a 10 (IELTS max 9 je). i love her blog, one of the best.. but she doesn't update, which is pretty sad. but i'm happy at least she shares her knowledge through my blog, which is a big bonus. But I'm happy to be her friend. Mana tau, if you come here one day, u get to meet her ;)
